The operational excellence system — adopted module by module

OPEREX is a modular platform: it turns daily operations into auditable, measurable excellence — adopted at your organisation's own maturity. The first live module is the digital shift log.

The essence

What is operational excellence?

The systematic, integrated management of process safety, reliability and efficiency for world-class performance. Not a tool or a program, but a management system — the way an organisation runs, day by day.

Not a tool, but a system

Lean, Six Sigma, KPIs are all tools — operational excellence is the frame that weaves them into one governed system.

Not a project, but a habit

“Excellence is not an act, but a habit.” Not a one-off program but the way daily operations run — inseparable from continuous improvement.

Measurable results

Top-quartile plants are safer, more reliable and more efficient — fewer incidents, higher availability, lower cost.

The developers are engineers who've seen the plant floor.

OPEREX isn't built by a generic software vendor — it's built by engineers who have seen industrial operations from the inside.

Engineering foundations

A process- and chemical-engineering background — the product is built on how plants actually work, not on assumptions.

Plant-floor experience

Familiar with refinery and petrochemical environments: shift handover, permits and incidents in practice.

Safety-critical mindset

Understands why Excel isn't enough: shift handover and incident handling affect plant safety.

Adoption timeline

One shared backbone — plug in any module, anytime

There's no required order: you adopt the modules in parallel, fitted to your maturity and chosen path. Start where the gap is biggest.

Operational excellence

Pick a module — see where it connects in the system.

The modules share data with each other — every step makes the system stronger, whatever the order.

The method

The three lenses of operational excellence

Lasting Lean results come from improving three lenses at once — and each starts from customer value.

Voice of the Customer

Every improvement starts from understanding customer value — not internal logic.

Operational ExcellenceA sustainable, auditable, measurable operation — the three lenses together.

Operating System

Operating System (OS)

“what we do”

The technical configuration of the process for value: standard work, 5S, JIT, jidoka, SOP.

Mindsets & Behaviours

Mindsets & Behaviours (M&B)

“how we think”

How people think and behave — the decisive, hidden part of the iceberg below the waterline.

OPEREX digitizes this

Management Infrastructure

Management Infrastructure (MI)

“how we manage”

The formal systems that direct resources: KPI cascade, visual boards, daily review — and a shared shift handover.

Frequently asked questions

What is operational excellence?

The systematic, integrated management of process safety, reliability and efficiency for world-class performance. Not a tool or a program, but a management system — “excellence is not an act, but a habit”.

So is OPEREX a shift log or a system?

A system. OPEREX digitises operational excellence, module by module. The first, currently live module is the shift log — the entry point, not the system itself.

Which module should we start with?

Whichever has the biggest gap. Most organisations start with the shift log (it makes the daily reality auditable), but there's no required order — you fit it to your maturity.

How do the modules communicate with each other?

They share data: a deviation in the log can raise a maintenance (CMMS) work order, an incident escalates into an investigation, a permit to work links to the log — one integrated system, not separate islands.

Do we have to adopt the whole system at once?

No. You adopt the modules step by step, fitted to your maturity; the system grows stronger with every step. You can start with a single module.

How is OPEREX different from a plain logbook or CMMS app?

OPEREX isn't a point product but a connected module system built around operational excellence — for industrial and process operations, with particular strength in regulated, safety-critical contexts (e.g. Seveso / ISO 45001), EU data residency and an immutable audit trail.

Is operational excellence the same as ISO 45001 certification?

No. ISO 45001 is a certifiable compliance standard; operational excellence is broader and performance-driven — the goal is top-quartile results, not a certificate. OE typically includes the relevant standards (e.g. Seveso III, ISO 45001) but goes beyond them in culture and continuous improvement. OPEREX supports these standards and is audit-ready; it is not itself an ISO certification.

How is operational excellence different from Lean?

Lean (and Six Sigma, TPM, 5S) is a toolset and philosophy for reducing waste and improving flow. Operational excellence is the broader umbrella: a management system that integrates Lean and the other tools — from strategy to the daily operating rhythm and HSE — into one governed system. You can run Lean as a project; OE is how the whole organisation works.
