Creating a work order in advance and linking it to a permit
The work order is the “order” of a maintenance job: what, on which equipment, who, by when. It can be created in advance, before the day of the work, in several ways, and the work permit refers to the same work order.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”- Permission: requesting cmms:wo:request or managing cmms:wo:manage work orders. As a requester the work order starts as Requested and waits for approval; as a manager it is Approved straight away if every policy condition is met.
- Prerequisite: the Maintenance module is on.
Where a work order can come from
Section titled “Where a work order can come from”| Path | Where | Note |
|---|---|---|
| By hand | Maintenance → Work orders — “New work order” | Collective work order too, if the policy allows. |
| From a technical location | The technical location’s page | Location prefilled. |
| From an event | The event row in the shift diary — “Work order request” | See: Opening a work order request from an event. |
| From preventive maintenance | Automatically, by the schedule | With the original due date. |
| From a condition threshold | Automatically, when a measured value is exceeded | Always Requested. |
| From a permit draft | The permit’s Basics card — “+ Work order request” | With the permit’s title and location. |
Linking a permit to the work order
Section titled “Linking a permit to the work order”- From the work order: on an open work order, “Issue permit” starts a new permit with the work order’s site and plant. The button shows when the work order is marked as needing a permit.
- From the permit draft: on the Basics card the Work order picker offers the open work orders of the permit’s site and plant. Picking one fills the empty fields of “Work order details” (purpose, problem, equipment); a value you typed is never overwritten.
- If there is no work order yet: “+ Work order request” creates one from the draft and links it immediately.
