How many permits were open at once? The concurrency page
The Concurrently open permits page shows how much work ran in parallel: how many permits were open on average and at peak during the period, by plant and by hour of day. It is a numbers-based picture of the load of parallel work — for example which hour of the day has the most permits open. (It does not check for conflicts: it shows how many permits run together, not whether they contradict each other.)
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”- Permission: the same as for the permit report — the right to view Analytics analytics:view and to view permits ptw:view, with both modules switched on.
- How to get here: the page opens from the permit report, through the link on the “Report layout” card: “Concurrently open permits — average, peak, time of day →”. The link carries the report’s applied filter.

- Set the filter in the permit report and update the report: the period (“From (site day)” and “To (site day)”), the site, plant, type and the other filters apply here too.
- Click “Concurrently open permits — average, peak, time of day →” on the “Report layout” card.
- Check the window. The page header states: “Window: … – … (time zone)”. If the filter has no “from” date, the window starts with the first open period, and the page says so.
- Read the overview: “Average open at once”, “Peak” (and “Peak first reached: …”, when), and how many permits were open during the window.
- Look at the two breakdowns: “By plant” (open in window · average · peak · when the peak was first reached) and “By time of day (local hour)” (per hour, the average and the peak, across all days in the period).
- Use “Back to the breakdown” to return to your filter.
If it worked
Section titled “If it worked”The Total row, the plant rows and the time-of-day table are all filled in. If no permit was open in the window the page says so: “No permit was open during the window.”
What “open” means, and what adds up
Section titled “What “open” means, and what adds up”- Open = from the first issue until closing, cancellation or expiry; an extension after expiry reopens it. The page computes from the signature chain, i.e. from what the permit’s life actually recorded.
- The date sets the window here. Every permit that was open during the window counts, whatever day it was issued — the date-axis setting has no effect on this page. The other filters narrow the selection as in the report.
- The average is time-weighted: total open time divided by the window length. It adds up across plants, the peak does not — the Total peak is computed from the whole set, not as the maximum of the plant peaks.
- A running permit gives a lower bound. While some permits are still open, the figures run up to now, and the page says so: “Some permits are still open: the figures run up to now (a lower bound).”
- Several time zones: if the selected sites are in different time zones, the window and the hours are in one stated zone.
- The numbers do not open a list. “Open overlap is not a filter axis, so these figures do not open a permit list.” Reach the permits in the report or the export.
Common problems
Section titled “Common problems”| What you see | Why | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| There is no link on the “Report layout” card | The page is only offered for a working report (both modules and both rights are needed). | Check the modules and rights — see the permit report article. |
| “No permit was open during the window.” | The filter and period found no open permit. | Widen the period or remove narrowing filters. |
