One-off and standing (instruction-based) permits
When you create a permit, the Permit kind field may offer two options. Both go through the same lifecycle; the difference is what the permit covers and how long it lives.
| One-off | Standing (instruction-based) | |
|---|---|---|
| For | One specific job, once | Recurring, routine plant work (e.g. daily sampling, regular filter change) |
| Validity | The job’s time window | Up to the template’s validity ceiling (at most 1 year), with day close and extension |
| Work order | The policy may require one | No work order needed: the instruction itself is the order |
| On paper | “Work permit” | “Work permit — STANDING (INSTRUCTION-BASED)” |
When the standing kind can be chosen
Section titled “When the standing kind can be chosen”- The template allows it: in the type editor, “Standing (instruction-based) permit can be chosen for this type” is on. Among the factory templates this is the general permit.
- The policy allows it: on the Policy gates page, “Standing (instruction-based) permits allowed” is on for the site. When it is off, only one-off permits can be created.
If either is missing, the picker does not appear at all — only a one-off permit can be made.
Daily work under a standing permit
Section titled “Daily work under a standing permit”During the long validity of a standing permit the work runs in a daily rhythm: day close at the end of the day, extension the next day (with a new gas test if the template asks for one). The expiry watcher does not close it on its own at the end of the day.
