Failures and restoration time per asset: the dashboard tile
On the analytics dashboard you can show, per asset, how many failures there were and how long restoration took. These are maintenance metrics, and they exist only broken down by asset: they cannot be read as a plain number or as a time series. You build the tile in the Dashboard editor.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”- Permission: showing the tile needs both analytics:view (view Analytics) and cmms:view (view Maintenance) — asset names are maintenance master data. The general conditions for building tiles are described in Build a dashboard view from tiles.
- Prerequisite: both the Analytics and the Maintenance module are on. If either is missing the tile draws no number and says so: “The asset breakdown needs both the Analytics and the Maintenance module.”
- Where the figure comes from: closed corrective work orders that are bound to a technical location, on the day the failure was detected (in the site’s time zone). A work order that is not closed yet does not count.
- Open the Dashboard editor (the analytics tab bar’s “Settings ▾” menu) and add or select a “Breakdown (bars)” or “Metric table” tile. The asset breakdown is possible only on these.
- Pick a metric among the maintenance metrics:
- Failures (closed corrective work orders) — the number of closed corrective work orders;
- Restoration time (total, including hold time) — the total time to restore, including the time the work order was on hold.
- In the right-hand panel, in the “Breakdown” list, choose “By asset (maintenance)”. This option is offered only with a maintenance metric, on a bar or table tile.
- If needed, narrow the tile to one plant.
- Save the view. The tile gives the same breakdown in the PDF.
The panel also carries an explanatory line: “Maintenance metrics only exist per asset: read them on a ranking or table tile with the “By asset” breakdown. The figures come from closed corrective work orders, on the day the failure was detected.”
If it worked
Section titled “If it worked”The tile’s rows are the assets (as name (code)), in descending order of the first metric. If there are more assets than the tile’s row limit, an “other (N assets)” row sums up the rest. The tile’s total line says how many assets have data in the period: “Total for N assets — …”. The totals are the sums of the rows: the metrics are additive.
A tile narrowed to a plant looks at the asset’s actual plant (the plant of the nearest parent location that has a plant bound) — if an asset is re-bound to another plant, the tile follows.
Common problems
Section titled “Common problems”When the tile shows a sentence instead of a number, it always states the reason:
| Sentence | What to do |
|---|---|
| “The maintenance (asset-level) metric can only be read on a ranking or table tile, broken down by asset.” | The tile is not a “Breakdown (bars)” or “Metric table”. Switch to one of those kinds. |
| “Choose the “By asset (maintenance)” breakdown — this metric only exists per asset.” | The tile reads a maintenance metric but no asset breakdown is set. Choose the breakdown. |
| “The breakdown by asset only works with a maintenance (asset-level) metric.” | The asset breakdown is set but the metric is not a maintenance one. Pick a maintenance metric or another breakdown. |
| “The asset breakdown needs both the Analytics and the Maintenance module.” | Ask your administrator to enable the missing module. |
| “No permission for the asset breakdown (Analytics view and Maintenance view are required).” | Ask your administrator for the missing permission. |
- I cannot find the metric in the picker. The maintenance metrics appear only in the tile picker of the Dashboard editor, and only with the Maintenance module on. They are deliberately absent from the calculated-metric formula and from the export composer: they could not give a number there.
- An asset is missing. Only an asset that had a closed corrective work order in the period appears, by the failure’s detection day.
